Sometimes you just can’t win.

This makes me angry.

Like most people, I use Paypal (but limit my use to things I cannot purchase any other way). I know how much of a pain in the ass they can be. I didn’t, however, expect them to pull this sort of crap…especially not when the raffle is in support of soldiers.

Bad move, Paypal. Bad move. I don’t care if you’re anti-gun…apparently you’re also anti-military. I’ve seen suggestions that Paypal is just following the laws of California, but that’s a load of bullshit. eBay is equally anti-gun, and it makes sense that eBay’s politics would filter down to Paypal, since the former owns the latter.

As a sidenote – I had already been debating getting a ticket or two, and this clinches it. I’m glad Paypal won’t be making money off these ticket sales…and once payday hits, I’ll be picking up a ticket or three.

EDITED TO ADD: apparently, in response to a lot of complaints about Paypal, gunpal now exists for your gun trading needs.

IMO Pay-Pal is following the fear-of-litigation and the Cool-to-be-a-weenie behavior that is California, that's all. I tried buying a couple tickets through Pay-Pal, I use it for buying eBay crap – but it kept screwing up, so I just put it on the Visa!

  2. Laura says:

That may be true, but I really, really don't believe that is the only reason.

I try to avoid paypal as much as possible, unfortunately there's not a competitor who's really a viable alternative.

It's really quite ridiculous. They're raffling off a gun that is clearly legal in CA. They're just being a bunch of assholes at the mere THOUGHT of a GUN being involved here and are willing to shit all over charity for a good cause because of it.

That said, I've often paid for “misc. tools” or a “shower mat” through paypal…..like I would ever buy a shower mat.

I will say that the negative publicity has piqued my interest in Project Valor and I'll now be buying a few ticket, even if it means sending them a check.

agreed at their general douchebaggery. I agree with mike though- for now, they have the market relatively cornered.

Any pictures of your plinkster yet?

  5. Kevin says:

We've managed to bypass PayPal! Another sponsor of the Rendezvous, LuckyGunner.com, an ammo site, is doing the on-line ticket sales for us with all proceeds (minus the 3% credit card fee) going to Soldiers' Angels. Soldiers' Angels is still taking phone orders for those who don't want to purchase on-line. Details here.

    And thanks again for linking!

  6. Laura says:

hey Kevin – i'm thrilled to hear that. i've been getting the word out as best i can!

it angers me that i live in a state where i'm prohibited from winning the pistol, though. fecking maryland.

  7. Mike W. says:

Laura – What about a 1911 makes it prohibited?

  8. Laura says:

it's the casing, not the gun itself. i can get it here, but to get a new gun in Maryland it must come with a spent casing for the MDPD.

  9. Mike W. says:

Doh! Dumbass MD Ballistics Registry that hasn't solved a single crime despite enormous cost to taxpayers.

  10. Laura says:

    yeah, tell me about it!

  11. mike's spot says:

Ugh. You have to turn the case in as well? 40 freakin' bucks here to get the test done if your pistol doesn't have it included- must be dropped off by the dealer too before you take possession. They literally have like a 5 hour work day and are a good 50 miles from me.

    I feel your pain.

  12. Laura says:

oh WE don't turn in the case…our FFL does it for us. and if we can't get the gun with the factory-shot case?

    we're SOL.
