URGENT(ish) question for those of you in the know…

A friend intends to visit us in October, and he’d like to bring his pistol along. Problem is, he wants to send it to himself via UPS.

How does one go about doing this? I’ve checked the Google machine, and it seems the consensus is one MAY be able to ship to oneself. Maybe. Can anyone substantiate this?

  1. Mike W. says:

I'll see what I can find out. MD's transit laws are atrocious. I can't even legally drive down to visit you guys with my guns unless I go straight to the range & then home IIRC.

  2. First, how is he traveling? Air or land? Second, is he planning on hand guns or long guns?

Good general info (more PA specific): http://forum.pafoa.org/general-2/56807-shipping-answers-questions-often-asked.html

Since he is traveling by Air (what you told me earlier) and not checking any bags because he doesn't want to deal with TSA, it looks like the general answer is YES, you can ship arms to yourself in a different location, following the rules of the state and the shipper. Looks like there are a whole bunch of decelerations that need to be made of the contracting shipper, and I assume the receiving agent is not a prohibited person as well.

I've always wondered about this as well.

There is always the “it's brakes and an exhaust manifold” trick too.
